In swahili, Kago means Protective Magic. While my Basenji Kago is not very protective, he does have a distinct magic about him. Basenji's originate from Africa, specifically the Congo area and are one of mankind's oldest breeds, ranking right up there with the wild dingo, thought to be one of the closest relatives to Basenjis. I fell in love with basenjis in 1993 when I first came in contact with one of these obnoxious beasts! It was the most arrogant, pushy, funny looking things I had ever seen, and I immediately fell in love with it. In 2001, I finally got my wish, to be owned by a Basenji. Kago was born on December 20, 2000, and while he is (unfortunately) from a backyard breeder, he is extremely well adapted and wonderfully affectionate. His "magic" is definitely intoxicating and has me wanting another one already! This magic also extends to most people who meet the well behaved 'senji that was raised by a German Shepherd. Little do they know his hidden desire to destroy all things paper! (Something we encouraged to avoid everything else being destroyed! Its all about compromise with these guys!) He really is a wonderful dog and perhaps the fastest learning dog I have, now whether it is what I want him to learn, well, that's another story! Kago's future plans include a "run" at lure coursing and probably agility!
